Is it Safe for a Bulldog to Sniff Another Bulldog's Poop?

Needless to say, many bulldog owners may not be particularly fond of discussing the subject of their bulldog sniffing another bulldog's poop, but concerns over health often force the topic into the open. Sure, it's not the most pleasant aspect of bulldog ownership, but it happens to involve every bulldog owner, whether they admit it in public or not!

A st. bernard became a mother in 1975. While that wasn't unusual by itself, the unusual thing was that she had twenty-three puppies! She now shares this record with two other dogs, one of which originally set it in 1944.

While merely sniffing another bulldog's poop may not be inherently dangerous to your bulldog, eating another bulldog's poop, called coprophagia, is another matter entirely. While the idea is repugnant to humans, this behavior in bulldogs is rather common. After all, a bulldog has increased senses, and through the smelling of another bulldog's poop, may be able to identify what that bulldog has eaten, when, and whether or not it may taste good.

Part of the reason that basset hounds have such a unique look is that the British purposely bred basset hounds to have short legs, so that hunters could keep up with them. Unfortunate this has caused the breed to be prone to leg/joint problems.

Dogs mark their territory, so when they come across another bulldog's pile of poop, it's perfectly natural for them to identify what the substance is. If they are hungry, and you are not feeding your bulldog adequately, they may even take a taste or two. If a bulldog's body craves for nutrients that the diet you are feeding him does not address, the problem may grow worse.

About eight thousand years ago, ancient Egyptians began to raise a breed called Saluki, as hunting dogs. Saluki is an arabic word. In english it translates as "noble one". These dogs are probably the oldest known breed.

The best thing for bulldog owners to do to prevent such situations is to pick up after their bulldogs, both at home and when they take them out for a walk. Bulldogs will sniff anything, just to figure out what it is, so why is another bulldog's poop any different? Bulldog owners should not be alarmed at this type of territorial behavior, but they can take measures to avoid the next step in the process, which may be your bulldog's ingesting the fecal matter.

While adult dalmations are covered in cute black spots, dalmation puppies are actually born solid white. Their spots don't show up until they are at least a week old. Sometimes not until they are a month old.

Make sure your bulldog is healthy, fed a well-balanced, nutritional diet and is kept amused and entertained. Bored or anxious bulldogs are more likely to be attracted to sniffing, and eating, another bulldog's poop, than one who is mentally and physically stimulated and active. When walking your bulldog, make sure you distract him or her when you notice a pile of poop just waiting for inspection. Praise your bulldog when he responds appropriately to your commands of 'no', or 'leave it' or other sounds of warning. Never punish your bulldog for being inquisitive, as curiosity is as natural to them as it is to humans.

The basenji, an African wolf dog, is the only breed of dog that cannot bark. Instead of barking, it makes an odd yodel-like noise. Due to this fact, the basenji is also sometimes known as an African barkless dog.

If your bulldog continuously smells other bulldog's poop, try changing your walking route to a cleaner path. If such a consideration isn't possible, ask your vet for some spray that you might carry with you that will discourage your bulldog from smelling or eating any poop you find on your walks. Hot sauce is also good at keeping bulldogs from eating poop, though they may get away with it the first time. The second time, however, the taste of the sauce may be repugnant enough for them to avoid further sniffing.

The official name of the dogs we call pitbulls is the American staffordshire terrier. Pitbulls have been the preferred pet of many famous people including Fred Astaire, Vin Diesel, Alicia Silverstone, Michael J. Fox, and James Caan.

The best thing a bulldog owner can do is to feed bulldogs adequate nutrients in their diet. Clean up after your bulldog and give them plenty of stimulation and exercise. After all, no one wants to talk about his or her bulldog smelling another bulldog's poop!

The Bloodhound doesn't need to smell blood to find someone who is lost. It is said that his name instead means blooded hound, or aristocratic. They actually track people because people leave a trail of skin cells with their own unique odor wherever they go.
