Important Tips on How to Care for Your Bulldog

Bringing that puppy home from the pet store or the DOG pound is only the beginning to a long and hopefully enjoyable relationship between you and your new best friend. However, there are many things to consider when it comes to raising a bulldog, and one of the most important aspects of bulldog ownership is the health and proper care of your bulldog.

The Schipperke, or "little captain", is generally thought of as being solid black in the USA. However, they do actually come in other colors. The reason they are commonly thought to only be black, is that the black variety is the only type currently recognized by the AKC.

Begin with the essentials: diet, bedding and housebreaking, if your pet is going to be an inside bulldog, and proper obedience so that you can take your bulldog for walks which will provide sensory and muscular stimulation.

The joys of motherhood struck with a vengeance when, in 1984, a great dane became the third dog to join the record holders for largest litter. She had twenty-three puppies. Interestingly, each of the three dogs that hold the record are different breeds.

When it comes to feeding your new puppy or DOG, ensure that you are feeding him the proper kinds of food for his age. Puppy kibbles have different nutrients in them than kibbles for adult or older bulldogs, so make sure you read labels and keep in mind the size and condition of your bulldogs teeth when shopping for DOG foods. Small DOGS need small pieces of kibbles or DOG food, while larger DOGS can accommodate the larger offerings. With recent scares over the pet food industry, many bulldog owners are opting to prepare homemade meals for their bulldogs.

The Lowchen, a small, somewhat rare breed of dog, is native to France. It's called "petit chien lion" or, "little lion dog". This is due to its fur growth, as it resembles the mane of a lion.

If you choose to do this, provide your bulldog with a balanced diet combination of proteins, vegetables and grains.

Dandie Dinmont is a fictional character in Sir Walter Scott's "Guy Mannering", published in 1814. The main character had mustard and pepper terriers. Although Dandie Dinmont dogs were in existence for many years previously, it is this character that gave the breed their name.

Bedding is another consideration, depending on whether your bulldog is to be an inside or an outside bulldog, or both. Small DOGS seem to prefer baskets made of wicker to sleep in, while larger DOGS will prefer large, rectangular pillows. Some may stick their noses up at those and head for the nearest chair instead. If that doesn't bother you, great! If it does, try to keep your bulldog to one specific chair and cover it with a blanket if desired. If your bulldog is to be outside, either build him a bulldoghouse or at least provide him with shelter in case of inclement weather.

An American foxhound became one of the most amazing mothers in the dog world when she set a record for the largest litter of puppies in 1944. She had not one, not two, not even ten, but twenty-three puppies!

A DOG collar and license and identification tag should be your next order of business, as it is much easier to find your bulldog in the event he gets out of the yard if he's licensed. You can also procure DOG I.D. tags at most local retail grocery and pet stores. Make sure you include the bulldogs name, address and phone number.

About eight thousand years ago, ancient Egyptians began to raise a breed called Saluki, as hunting dogs. Saluki is an arabic word. In english it translates as "noble one". These dogs are probably the oldest known breed.

Another important factor to consider is whether your bulldog is going to be left alone for long periods of time, while parents are at work and kids are in school. Bulldogs get bored too, so try to provide chew toys or other items that will keep your bulldog happy and entertained until you get home.

Pekingese dogs were sacred to the emperors of China for more than 2,000 years. They are one of the oldest breeds of dogs in the world. Commoners in Imperial China were forbidden to own Pekingese dogs.

Owning a bulldog can be one a great joy, but it also comes with a fair share of responsibility. Your bulldog is a valuable extension of the family, so make sure he's as well taken care of as any other member of your family.

The Skye Terrier's origins are connected with a centuries old shipwreck. Early in the 1600's a Spanish ship wrecked on the Island of Skye in the Scottish Hebrides. Some of the survivors of the shipwreck were Maltese dogs that mated with the local terriers, creating a new and unique breed.
