Do Bulldogs Like to Wear Clothes?

Most people who dress up their bulldogs do so for one of two reasons. The first reason is because the people find it funny. Let's face it, a bulldog wearing clothes is cute. It's a great topic for conversation. It's fun at holidays and parties. However, it's not necessarily as enjoyable for the bulldog. Bulldogs are individuals, just like human beings. Some bulldogs may tolerate dressing up better than other bulldogs do, especially if there is food or some reward involved, but that does not necessarily mean that they like it.

German shepherd dogs are great working dogs. They are often used as police dogs, rescue dogs and guides for the blind. In fact, one of them, a guide dog named Orient, once led a blind hiker the entire 2100 mile length of the Appalachian Trail.

The second reason people dress up their pets is for protection from the cold. This reason is completely valid for certain breeds. For instance, breeds such as the chihuahua originated in warmer climates. Therefore, if you own a DOG that is native to a warmer climate and you live in a colder climate they have trouble keeping warm in such weather. In these cases sometimes a DOG sweater is essential.

Australian Kelpies are herding dogs with an abundance of energy. They can work in extreme climates and conditions. They are known for one unique ability. They can run along the backs of sheep when moving them through chutes.

It is very important, no matter what the reason for dressing up the bulldog, to supervise the bulldog if it is dressed up. Bulldogs shouldn't be dressed up in anything that they could easily get tangled in or chew up and choke on. If the bulldog does not take well to being dressed up it could easily start running around trying to escape and get caught on doors or other objects.

French poodles were originally used as hunting dogs, but, because their thick coats proved a problem in the bush and water, their owners started clipping them. They left hair on the ankles to protect against rheumatism, which is why poodles sometimes appear to have unusual haircuts.

The bottom line is that if the bulldog needs clothes to go outside in the cold or seems to tolerate them ok at holidays or special occasions then there's no harm done. However, if the bulldog doesn't need clothes and doesn't seem to like them then they shouldn't be forced into it. Bulldogs, like people, don't usually like to be forced to do something for someone else's amusement.

The bichon frise breed is quite old. Originally they used to belong only to kings and queens. However, eventually they became known for their abilty to learn tricks and for their excellent sense of balance. As a result, they gained a reputation for being excellent as circus dogs.

Schipperke is Flemmish for "little captain" and the name is appropriate because most schipperkes seem to act almost human. they are happy, intelligent and usually enjoy being the center of the universe around them.

Lhasa Apsos are small, long-haired dogs. Believe it or not, they were originally used by monks to guard temples. This accounts for their quiet and friendly nature, which can easily change if their owners or home are threatened.
