Breaking a Bulldog's Bad Habits

Conditioning a bulldog to lose bad habits is not the easiest task to overcome. But, it's all in the timing. All bulldog owners should not expect to bring a bulldog home and not have to train it. Bulldogs are verisimilar to people. They have personalities that may compel them to act in a particular way. Consequently, patience coalesced with kind firm discipline is necessary for teaching and old or new bulldog new tricks.



The phal�ne is essentially the same thing as a papillon, except that it has dropped spaniel-like ears. within the first couple of months after birth the ears will either lay flat or raise up permanently. The AKC considers the Phal�ne and the Papillon to be the same breed.


Use these tips, tricks and strategies to discourage unacceptable behavior:



Alaskan Malamutes are known for being friendly and loyal. In fact, Chewbacca, the hairy Wookiee in the Star Wars movies and the name of the character of indiana Jones were both inspired by George Lucas' loyal dog Indiana, an Alaskan Malamute.


1) When your bulldog behaves or commits an intolerable act, give him or her a deep, short growl. The growl is effective because it emulates the canine's mother. Just as the pup's mother would confront the bulldog face to face with the growl, you should do the growl in your puppy's face to discourage the unwanted behavior.

2) If your puppy or new bulldog continues the behavior, repeat the growl. However, the second one should be a little louder but not any longer than the first growl.



Pekingese dogs were sacred to the emperors of China for more than 2,000 years. They are one of the oldest breeds of dogs in the world. Commoners in Imperial China were forbidden to own Pekingese dogs.


3) In cases where your bulldog continues to behave poorly, snap at the canine in the fashion a bulldog. In other words a short bursting growl followed by a snapping of your teeth.

Other trainers recommend discouraging poor behavior by giving a bulldog a sniff. Since it demonstrates that the owner is the elder or alpha, it can catch your bulldog or puppy off guard and make them aware that is the subordinate.



The doberman pinscher breed was created in the 1860's by a man named Louis Doberman. Mr. Doberman was a German tax-collector. He needed a dog to protect him from angry people while he worked. To this day, dobermans are excellent guard dogs.
